OCI Chemical Corporation to Relocate North American Headquarters to Concourse Corporate Center

OCI Chemical leased 13,770 square feet at Five Concourse Parkway.

Press Release, May 18, 2010

ATLANTA – CresaPartners, the largest tenant representation firm in North America, recently assisted OCI Chemical in negotiations for its new North American Headquarters at Five Concourse Parkway, Suite 2550, Atlanta, Georgia 30328. Billy Hobbs, Managing Principal, and Jason Jones, Principal, of CresaPartners Atlanta represented the chemical company in its relocation from 1800 West Oak Commons Court, Suite 100, Marietta, Georgia.

OCI Chemical was founded in 1996 and is a subsidiary of South Korean-based OCI Company LTD (formerly DC Chemicals Co. LTD). “OCI” means the “Origin of Chemical Innovation”. The company is the world’s third largest producer of natural soda ash, with offices in the U.S. and Europe, and a state- of-the-art production facility with an annual production capacity of 3.25 million tons. OCI Chemical launched their U.S. sodium percarbonate business in 2001 with construction of a production facility in Decatur, Alabama. This plant, along with the parent company’s plants in Korea and China, puts OCI in a great position to service global sodium percarbonate needs. In 2006, OCI Chemical entered into a joint venture with Eka Chemicals Inc. and the new company EkO Peroxide LLC owns and administers a 70,000st hydrogen peroxide production plant in Columbus, Mississippi.

“We are excited about our move from an industrial park in Marietta to one of the finest buildings in Atlanta,” said Kirk H. Milling, President and CEO of OCI Chemical. “In addition to wonderful amenities for our employees, the Five Concourse Parkway location is a recognizable, prestigious landmark that will help us establish a new corporate identity for our North American operations.

“Due to our extensive market knowledge, we were able to negotiate extra benefits for OCI Chemical and still stay well within the company’s budget,” said Billy Hobbs, Managing Principal with CresaPartners. “We carefully analyzed other alternatives in the Galleria area, but both the amenities and the economics of the deal made Concourse a better choice for the long run.”

Teresa Johnson, Leasing Associate, Cousins Properties Incorporated represented the owner of Concourse Corporate Center Five, TIA-CREF. The 687,107 square foot building was awarded an Energy Star label in 2009 for its operating efficiency and is conveniently located near I-285 and GA 400.
